The farmhouse
An old farmhouse, turned into a cafe.
From the Paddock is a farm and farmhouse in the Capertee Valley that has been made into a cafe. Come inside to the counter and the reading room, pull up a chair on the verandah, or take a table out in the garden under the trees.
It's run by a family, and the menu shows it: the pies, the cakes and the sandwiches carry the names of the people who make them. The coffee is good, the eggs are fresh, and the view is the valley itself.

The best things on the menu have somebody's name on them.
Read the menu and you'll meet the family. The banana bread is Aliya's, the carrot cake is Maurice's, and the lamb and potato pie is Terrie's. One reviewer called that pie “a roast dinner in a flakey light pastry.”

On the shelves
Take a bit of the valley home.
Inside the farmhouse the shelves carry local produce, including meats, honey, bread and garlic, alongside oils, preserves and work by local artists. Visitors have gone home with beautiful Australian bird art.
Ask at the counter what's in this week, and grab an ANZAC slice or a cookie for the road.

Out the back
Bring the dog. Stay a while.
Tables are spread right through the garden behind the cafe, under the big trees, with the escarpment on the skyline. Dogs are welcome out here, the kids have room to move, and nobody's in a hurry.
Come for lunch, and like plenty of people before you, you might be back the next morning for breakfast.

Finding the farmhouse
We're on Glen Alice Road in the Capertee Valley. Follow the long driveway down to the cafe, there's plenty of free parking by the door.
